European Alliance for CSR

The European Alliance for Corporate Social Responsibility is an open partnership for enterprises to promote and encourage CSR. The Alliance was launched in 2006 as a joint initiative of the European Commission and the business community.

In March 2010 the European Commission made a commitment to “renew the EU strategy to promote Corporate Social Responsibility as a key element in ensuring long term employee and consumer trust”.

Corporate social responsibility is companies acting voluntarily and beyond the law to achieve social and environmental objectives during the course of their daily business activities. The European Commission is promoting inclusive and good quality employment practices within enterprises, particularly within the supply chain and down to the respect for human rights in the international context. Flexicurity and diversity management are emerging issues that companies are needing to address. Innovations in employee health management, business education and lifelong learning, and environmental issues are equally part of the CSR agenda, discussions about which are undertaken on a multi-stakeholder basis.

Companies can contribute to sustainable development by managing their operations in a way contributes to economic growth, increases competitiveness but also promotes quality conditions for workers and high levels of environmental protection. The EU believes that voluntary social and environmental commitments that go beyond companies’ legal obligations can complement and support government action for sustainable development and the promotion of core labour standards.

European Social Investment Forum

Eurosif (the European Sustainable Investment Forum) is a pan-European network and think-tank whose mission is to Develop Sustainability through European Financial Markets. Current Member Affiliates of Eurosif include institutional investors, financial service providers, academic institutes, research associations, trade unions and NGO’s. The association is a not-for-profit entity that represents assets totalling over €1 trillion through its affiliate membership.

CSR Europe

CSR Europe is the leading European business network for corporate social responsibility (CSR) with around 70 multinational member companies and 27 national partner organisations across Europe. CSR Europe’s mission is to act as the European platform for companies and their stakeholders to exchange and cooperate to make themselves and Europe global leaders in sustainable competitiveness and societal wellbeing.

International Business Leaders Forum

Founded in 1990, IBLF is an independent, not-for-profit organisation working with leading global companies on responsible business solutions to sustainable development challenges. IBLF helps companies work with government, global agencies and civil society to overcome these challenges. We do this by providing a neutral, ‘safe space’ for companies to exchange viewpoints constructively, producing topical research and frameworks and facilitating cross-sector partnerships that bring local expertise to initiatives.

International Institute for Sustainable Development

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is a Canadian-based, public policy research institute that has a long history of conducting cutting-edge research into sustainable development. oday, the institute is a non-partisan, charitable organization specializing in policy research, analysis and information exchange. Through its head office in Winnipeg, Manitoba and its branches in Ottawa, Ontario; New York, NY; and Geneva, Switzerland IISD applies human ingenuity to help improve the well being of the world’s environment, economy and society.

United Nations Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

Sustainable Society Foundation

With the objective of stimulating and assisting societies in their development towards sustainability, the Sustainable Society Foundation – SSF – has been established in 2006 as a private initiative by Geurt van de Kerk and Arthur Manuel. The main objective remains to further develop the Sustainable Society Index – SSI – and to publish and disseminate the results every two years. The SSI has been developed for 151 countries on national level. Nowadays the SSI has been implemented on regional level as well. We are working on the development of the SSI on local level.

Transparency International, the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption, brings people together in a powerful worldwide coalition to end the devastating impact of corruption on men, women and children around the world. TI’s mission is to create change towards a world free of corruption.

United Nations Environmental Programme

UNEP DTIE works closely with partners from business and industry to advance our mission and activities in the field of technology, industry and economics. This involves working with representatives of business, large and small, from all parts of the world. It also involves working with related stakeholders, ranging from labour and consumers to NGOs and research organisations. Our activities in this field include stakeholder dialogue, sharing emerging best practices, developing and promoting materials to build the capacities of managers and employees, inspiring partnership innovation and improving understanding of key corporate responsibility issues on the global sustainable development agenda.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a CEO-led, global association of some 200 companies dealing exclusively with business and sustainable development. The Council provides a platform for companies to explore sustainable development, share knowledge, experiences and best practices, and to advocate business positions on these issues in a variety of forums, working with governments, non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations.
